Class information

P.E. Days - Tuesday and Wednesday

Please ensure the children wear their PE kits when they come to school on that day. As the weather becomes colder the children will need to have warmer clothes including sweatshirts and joggers.

Library - Friday (every other week)

Please ensure the children come to school each Friday with their library book ready to change.

Because the children may be using the internet at home, we thought we would share the keeping safe on line rules.

Staying Safe Online

  • Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number.
  • Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.
  • Keep your privacy settings as high as possible
  • Never give out your passwords
  • Don’t befriend people you don’t know
  • Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do
  • Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are
  • Think carefully about what you say before you post something online
  • Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude
  • If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

Reading books

As the children arrive in the morning they are asked to put their books and reading records into boxes. The TA will then check the reading records for messages. The books will be changed as part of their RWI lesson as the books they bring home are directly related to their phonic learning at school.

The children will have 2 books. One will reflect the book they used the week before in RWI which will help develop their fluency and one is reflective of the book they are reading that week and will help them to practise their sound and word reading.

Please write where you have read to in the reading record and any relevant comment.

Spellings

After Christmas the children will begin to bring home spellings to learn. They are in the form of look say cover write check. This process asks them to say the word, then cover the word then practise writing the word. Once they have practised writing it they then check to see if the spelling is correct.

At school they will have a short test to see how well they are getting on.

The spellings will be based around the common exception words that the children have to learn to spell in year 1. These are words that are tricky to sound out.
